Morocco Highlights - 9 Day 9 day full itinerary breakdown and route map
Welcome to historic, vibrant Marrakech: the official starting point of our epic Moroccan adventure! After a ride to the hotel, you’ll have a welcome meeting with your fantastic guide and fellow passengers. Once we’re all good and acquainted, we’ll head off for some authentic grub (put your wallet away, it’s on us), followed by some free time. Discover this Moroccan jewel your own way. Remember, we’re returning for a more thorough visit in just a few days, so take it slow and enjoy the vibes. When the sun sets, pull up a pew, sit back, and relax under the twinkling African night’s sky.
Marrakech to Casablanca
Today we head towards Casablanca! Upon arrival we’ll follow a guided tour to hit all up the local sights. Embark on an optional visit to the famous Hassan II Mosque - the largest in Morocco, with the world’s tallest minaret of 210 meters! You’ll have some free time to explore the city centre before meeting fellow travellers for dinner and an evening in Morocco’s biggest city.
Casablanca to Rabat to Meknes to Volubilis to Fes
Don’t you dare blink because today we’re seeing as much as we can! First stop is Morocco’s capital city, Rabat. Here, we’ll pay a visit first to the Kasbah of the Udayas in the old quarter of town and then to the famous monolithic Hassan Tower. Next stop: the Imperial City of Meknes. Explore the medina and spend your afternoon reveling in the sights of the gorgeous 12th century Grand Mosque, or the magnificence of the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail, and the ornate mosaics of the city’s gates. Onwards and we arrive at the famous ancient Roman ruins of Volubilis, where we’ll devour some local grub and enjoy a guided tour. Finally, we arrive in the ‘Athens of Africa’, Fes. Relax and prepare for a day of exploration as we familiarise ourselves with the city.
Fes awaits, so join us as we embark on a guided tour of the world’s oldest and largest medieval city! Get lost in the sights and smells of the local labyrinthine souks, do a touch of shopping, see the world's oldest continuously functioning university, and explore the dye-pits and tanneries of the UNESCO-listed medina of Fes. Grab a delicious local lunch while you’re out and enjoy the rest of your afternoon in this unique locale. Tonight, we offer an optional night on the town featuring a delicious traditional meal, followed by a magical night of cultural entertainment including authentic belly dancing!
Fes to Sahara Desert
We’ve got our motors running to begin our southerly journey into the Saharan Desert. Along the way, we’ll stop to enjoy a delicious Moroccan lunch option and cool off with a dip in the pool (seasonal). Once we’re refreshed, we head out to the red sands of Merzouga where we transfer to our lovely humped steeds for an authentic trek into the desert. Camels might not be the smoothest of rides, but we still recommending keeping your camera at the ready, as this is a bucket list experience you won't want to forget. Tonight, we share a truly remarkable evening under the Saharan stars with the local Berbers, enjoying traditional food, drink, and music.
Sahara Desert to Todra Gorge
Waking up amid the dunes is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and one we’ll be savouring this morning. Once we’ve eaten we’ll be heading east for Todra Gorge, otherwise known as Morocco’s Grand Canyon. We’ll arrive at the gorge in the late morning and you’ll have the full day to explore. See the incredible sheer cliffs carved out by millennia of water erosion. Enjoy a delicious local lunch at the Berber co-operative and peruse the numerous handmade rugs, carpets, and kilims on offer. Perhaps you’ll even take some Arabian treasures home. This evening we watch the sunset over the gorge as the fading sun paints the cliffs in a myriad of pastel oranges and blues. Afterwards, we’ll be enjoying a delicious authentic dinner.
Todra Gorge to Ouarzazate to Ait Benhaddou
It’s bright and early and today we’re making our way to the world famous Ait Benhaddou. Along the way we’ll off stop in Ouarzazate, where we offer an optional tour of the film studios, which boast a roster of impressive projects including Lawrence of Arabia, The Hills Have Eyes, Gladiator, and even Game of Thrones. As we make our way along the Ouarzazate river we arrive at the fortified village of Ait Benhaddou. This storied site has been in too many movies to mention and features many a famous kasbah, some still inhabited. Enjoy a guided tour followed by a delicious local dinner in this stunning location.
Ait Benhaddou to Marrakech
We’ve come full circle and find ourselves, once more, journeying for that golden gem, Marrakech. We’ll arrive around lunch, so a bite to eat and afterwards the option of a fantastic guided tour of the Imperial City. We’ll see the glorious Koutoubia Tower housed within the Koutoubia Mosque (this sprawling compound was built in the 1100s and is the largest mosque in Morocco). Then we’ll delve into the depths of Djemaa el-Fna square, and the fantastic marketplace located in the city’s historic medina. Tonight, we’ll enjoy our final meal together, so join us for a drink or two and say goodbye to magical Morocco in style.
Check-out is this morning after breakfast.
