11 Day Itinerary

East USA and Canada Adventure 11 day full itinerary breakdown and route map

Day 1

New York to Boston

We’ll kick off our adventure as we depart New York City, making our way to New Haven, the home of Yale University. Here you have the option to grab a meal at Louis’ Lunch, a restaurant with boasting rights to the United States’ original hamburger! More of a pizza fan? Well you’re in luck! New Haven is considered the pizza capital of the country, so grab a slice or two, or three. After lunch we’ll continue on to Boston, arriving late afternoon. This city is famous for Irish pubs, clam chowder, and being the birthplace of the American Revolution! What better way to celebrate our first night on the road then by hitting up an Irish pub and drinking the night away with new found friends.

Day 2

Boston

Today you’re free to get stuck into Boston. There’s a tonne to see and do, so get out there and make the most of it! Tour the lush Fenway Park, or wander over to Cambridge and check out the Harvard and MIT campuses. Feeling free? Then walk the Freedom trail! This 2.5 mile trail winds through downtown Boston, passing historically significant sites in abundance. Afterwards, beer lovers will want to tour Sam Adams Brewery for a fine, chilled brew or two. Alternatively, you could just hang out in Boston Common, which is the oldest city park in the United States!

Day 3

Boston to The Forks

Time to enjoy the gorgeous New England scenery as we head on over to Portland, arriving late this morning. Stretch your legs with a stroll through the Old Port area, Fort Allen Park and the Eastern Promenade where you can lavish breath-taking views of Casco Bay. Portland was dubbed “America’s foodiest small town” by Bon Appetit, so strap on a bib and chow down on some local cuisine! After lunch, visit one of the oldest continuously running farmers markets in the country before we continue onwards to the Forks. We’ll cruise along the beautiful Route 201 and arrive late this afternoon. Tonight, we’ll enjoy campfires, cabins and home-brewed beers.

Day 4

The Forks

Forkin’ hell, today you’re free to explore the Forks! Bask in the great outdoors and all its stunning majesty. Here, two powerful rivers violently clash, making the Forks one of the best white water rafting spots in the country. Anyone hoping to stay dry should check out the numerous self-guided hikes, only three miles from the Appalachian Trail. Trek over to Moxie Falls to gawk at one of New England’s highest waterfalls. Tonight, let the strains of an exhausting day melt away with a relaxing soak in the hot tub, then kick back with some live music at the local brewery.

Day 5

The Forks to Quebec City

Quebec calls and we answer! We’ll ride along Route 201, stopping for a quick gawp at the Attean Overlook. We’ll arrive into Quebec around lunchtime, where you have the afternoon to enjoy the UNESCO heritage listed Old Town and learn the rich history. Grab a bite to eat and practise your French in a quaint local cafe, then catch a funicular at Breakneck Stairs to skip the narrow winding streets between the Upper and Lower town. Check out Cathedral-Basilica of Notre-Dame de Quebec, and get a photo of Chateau Frontenac – one of the most photographed hotels in the country! Tonight, we’ll head to the oldest pub in the city and chill out to some live music.

Day 6

Quebec City to Montreal

Best start brushing up on your French because today we make our way to Montreal! We’ll depart Quebec early and stop for a stroll around a lakeside town along the way, then arrive at Montreal Old Port around lunchtime. Why not join an optional jet boating excursion on the St Lawrence River this afternoon? Or if jet boating’s not your cup of tea, spend the afternoon checking out Quebec’s plentiful sights and ride the tallest Ferris wheel in Canada. Tonight, your guide will take you on a food truck and microbrewery crawl of Montreal. Hope you’re hungry!

Day 7

Montreal

We’ve a free day today, c'est la vie! Explore the city by bike, or take your time and wander through the turtle shaped Jardin des Origines. Marvel at the bizarre and wonderful architecture of the housing complex known as Habitat 67. All that exploring will work up quite the appetite, so why not grab a few snacks at Jean-Talon Market, then get back to nature at Mont Royal; a small mountain set in the city. For dinner, explore Montreal’s famous food scene, then chill out and get ready for our trip to Toronto.

Day 8

Montreal to Ottawa to Toronto

Next up on our adventure is Toronto, but first we’ll have a stop in Ottawa, the nation’s capital! Try a Beaver Tail pastry or check out the gothic architecture of Parliament hill. Later we’ll continue on to Toronto, where we’ll be arriving in the early evening. After settling into our accommodation we’ll head out for a tour of the Kensington Market for some interesting dinner treats. Enjoy the rest of your evening but don’t go too hard; we’ve an entire day of exploring tomorrow!

Day 9

Toronto

Today you’re free to marvel at Toronto’s best bits. Why not get into the Canadian spirit and chow down on some tantalisingly sinful poutine? Then, check out the city’s bizarre architecture. The Half House, the Cube House, the Little House; take your pick! Or, sail over to Toronto island for some biking, hiking and views of the gorgeous skyline. There’re markets a plenty, serving food to jewellery and everything in-between. We’d recommend Lawrence market for an awesome lunch and the Distillery District for all your artesian wares.

Day 10

Toronto to Buffalo

Cya Toronto, we’re off to Buffalo. The coach leaves bright and early for the magical Niagara Falls, where you’re free to take the optional Maid of the Mist tour. Once we’re done getting soaked and awed by the falls, we’ll be hitting the road and crossing the border back into the good ol’ U S of A, where we’ll again marvel at Niagara. From here it’s only a short drive to Buffalo, and the rest of the day’s yours to explore. Wander the renovated waterfront, hit up some craft breweries, and soak up the local architecture. Last call’s at 4am tonight, so spend the night revelling in US majesty.

Day 11

Buffalo to NYC

The last day dawns but it’s a gooden and we’re determined to savour every minute. We’ll be departing Buffalo bright and early with the Big Apple in our sights. First though we’ll be stopping at Watkins Glen State park to walk the 19 waterfalls and marvel at the 200-foot cliffs. Once we’re all natured out, we’ll continue onwards and arrive in New York City for the evening. Our Canadian-American adventure may be over, but we’ve seen so much over the past 11 days and forged some life long memories. We hope to see you again!
