Edinburgh to Loch Ness
We leave Scotland's capital behind at 8.30am and head north to explore the forests and salmon-packed rivers of Perthshire and Dunkeld with its mighty cathedral in the heart of Macbeth country. Then we have a chance to sample Scotland's national drink, a wee dram of whisky at a Highland distillery. Onto Culloden Battlefield and Clava Cairns which was an inspiration for the Craigh na Dun standing stones. They both have a dramatic history of their own and have been once again thrust into the limelight as the inspiration for the hit series Outlander. We’ll spend the night on the banks of Loch Ness where you have a chance to go monster hunting on a 1-hour cruise before partying the night away at Morag's Lodge hostel.
Loch Ness to Edinburgh
We head south and travel through some of the most iconic Highland landscapes to mysterious and haunting Glencoe also known as the ‘Weeping Glen’. Stunningly beautiful, it has been the backdrop in movies including Harry Potter, Braveheart, Rob Roy and more recently Skyfall. We cross the wilds of Rannoch Moor towards the Lowlands and on past Doune Castle that starred in Outlander and Game of Thrones. As we pass historic Stirling, your Guide will speak passionately about both William Wallace and Rob Roy MacGregor, undoubtedly two of Scotland’s most heroic figures, before we arrive back in Edinburgh at approximately 5pm.
