Must See & Do in Yosemite National Park

The City

Yosemite National Park draws in a huge amount of visitors each year – four million, to be more precise. Yes, you read that right. Four. Million. What could possibly be drawing such large numbers, you wonder? Well, it might be something to do with the fact that about 95% of the park is designated wilderness. This pure and untouched natural beauty draws crowds from all over the world, who want to catch a glimpse of the towering cliffs, lush forests with some of the world’s tallest sequoia trees, and thundering waterfalls. You certainly won’t be limited for choice when you’re exploring this natural wonder, with the park featuring over 1,300km of hiking trails with varying levels of difficulty.

Top things to see
  • Bridalveil Fall This is the waterfall featured in any classic shot of Yosemite National Park. Walk the trail to get the perfect photo, but watch out for the watery spray from the wind!
  • Half Dome This is the parks most popular rock formation, and you can even hike to the top – if you can handle the 15 mile roundtrip journey!
  • Lembert Dome For a more manageable (but still challenging) 2.8 mile roundtrip hike, you can get an incredible view of the Tuolumne Meadows.
  • Tenaya Lake Debatably the most beautiful lake in Yosemite, in the warmer months you can swim and kayak in the clear waters.
  • Tunnel View While it does get crowded with tour buses, this spot still offers one of the best views in the park. From here you can see the Yosemite Valley, Half Dome, Bridalveil Fall and El-Capitan.
FOODS TO TRY:

Freshly Made Sandwiches
Grab one from Degnan’s Kitchen, where you can get freshly made-to-order sandwiches to fuel you for your next hike.

HIDDEN GEM:

Tuolumne Grove
Head here to get up close and personal with some of the oldest redwood trees in the world. From Tioga Road, turn into the parking lot. From here you can follow the path and walk about a mile through the forest to find the grove.
