It takes you off the beaten track to the Swiss village of Ellmau, where you can swim in mountain lakes and ride a horse through valleys, it goes to the essential cities of Munich and Venice, where you can capture the vibes of north and south Europe, and it ventures through the majestic Croatian towns of Split and Zadar. Take this trip and gloat your heart out.

We spend 10 days exploring Austria, Croatia, Germany, Italy. We visit Split, Munich, Zadar, Venice, Ellmau.

Hidden Gems 10 day itinerary

Day 1

Split

Your adventure begins in Croatia’s second largest city, Split. Located on the Adriatic this ancient city has many beautiful sights on offer. Meet with your fantastic Busabout guide and get a feel for the many exciting experiences that lie ahead of you. This evening we head out into the night to explore the rich history of Old Town and see the sprawling complex of Diocletian’s Palace, which housed a military garrison in addition to being Diocletian’s residence. We then have a welcome dinner and sample the delicious Dalmatian delicacies of this coastal paradise.

Day 2

Split to Zadar

We depart this morning after breakfast and take a short drive up the coast to the oldest inhabited town in Croatia, Zadar. After your check-in we’ll stretch our legs on an orientation walk along the cobbled streets of the historical centre of Dalmatia. Explore the beautiful medieval architecture of the Old Town and its cathedrals, visit the sun salutation and infamous sea organ installation and hear the song of the tides, or simply relax and soak up the sun on one of the numerous pristine Adriatic beaches whilst sipping on some refreshing local cocktails. Tonight explore the vibrant nightlife of this coastal gem but save some energy as we still have another great day in Zadar tomorrow!

Day 3

Zadar

Continue to explore the medieval majesty of Zadar or take a day trip to breathtaking Plitvice Lakes National Park and traverse the bridges over the crystal clear waters of the travertine lakes and see the stunning waterfalls ranging from a crash to a cascade or see stunning Krka National Park and take in the beautiful scenery and have a refreshing swim under the falls. Tonight recharge your batteries at the hostel or head out for another awesome night of Croatian excess.

Day 4

Zadar to Venice

Get your last minute shopping done as we depart later this morning for a scenic drive along the coast and into Italy on our way to “The Floating City” of Venice. Resting across the backs of 118 islands, this ancient architectural marvel is a UNESCO-listed monument teeming with rich history and beautiful sights. We check in upon arrival this evening and the rest of the night is yours to enjoy as you please.

Day 5

Venice

Head off to St Mark’s Square and enjoy some of authentic gelato and a refreshing Spritz as you explore the numerous souvenir stands and boutique stores or see the beautiful canals up close on an intimate gondola ride. If you’re lucky your gondolier may even serenade you! Once you’ve had your fill of sightseeing prepare for another night on the town and head out to one of the numerous world-class clubs or bars in Venice and party the night away.

Day 6

Venice

Head out into town or spend the day seeing the sights with some fantastic optional trips today. Take a trip to the charming town of Verona, the setting for William Shakespeare's romantic epic Romeo and Juliet. Hop aboard the Vaporetto and visit the islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello and witness the incredible artistry of the traditional glass blowing. Tonight head out for another night of Venetian madness.

Day 7

Venice to Ellmau

This morning it’s ciao Venezia as we board the coach and head towards the Austrian border and our destination of Ellmau. We take a winding course as we make our way through the magnificent Austrian Alps and through the Tyrolean region until we make our arrival in the idyllic mountain town of Ellmau. Situated against the backdrop of the Kaisergebirge range, this village is host to a myriad of gorgeous views and unrivalled natural beauty. We check in this afternoon and have two days to explore the area, so spend the day settling in and prepare to get stuck in tomorrow.

Day 8

Ellmau

Prepare for a day of outdoor adventure in the gorgeous Austrian wilderness. You may spend the day as you wish and there are a number of exciting activities on offer. Feel the wind in your hair as you explore your lush surroundings while mountain biking, take a hike into the hills and have a refreshing swim in the crystal clear waters of an Alpine lake, or saddle up and explore the area whilst on horseback. Take it all in and make sure to keep the camera charged as Ellmau’s natural beauty holds a surprise around every turn.

Day 9

Ellmau to Munich

Spend the morning ticking off the remaining sights on the list as this afternoon we board the coach and begin the final leg of our journey, heading to the German border. After a short drive we arrive at our destination, the glorious Bavarian capital of Munich. Join us for an orientation walk of the city and stretch your legs as you explore the Old Town and Munich Frauenkirche to learn the legend of the Devil's Footstep. Tonight we offer an unmissable optional feast in one of Munich’s traditional beer halls! Join us for a night of merriment as we indulge in delicious local sausages, sauerkraut, and eisbein while enjoying a refreshing stein of Bavarian beer.

Day 10

Day 10: Munich

Check out is after breakfast. We hope to see you again! If you’re continuing your journey on our Hop-on Hop-off network, the next stop is Lauterbrunnen via Lucerne.
