1. Trummelbach Falls
Picture this: 10 alpine rivers flowing into one point, corkscrewing their way through the mountainside at about 20,000L of water per second. Trummelbach falls is an incredible place for the senses with the shuddering mountains and thundering noise as you walk up several platforms to view the magnificent sight.
Known as the ‘Top of Europe’, Jungfraujoch is the highest railway station in Europe. The journey itself takes a couple of hours as you slowly climb to the top going past some beautiful mountains and glacier formations. Once at the top you can visit several sights such as an ice palace, several restaurants and cafes, snow sports and a great view on a clear day. If you’re keen on going up, consider taking the ‘morning special’ ticket where you can save a few dollars.
3. Schilthorn Piz Gloria
For a view of the famous Jungfraujoch mountain range, head up the cable car to Schilthorn. On the journey, you can jump off and enjoy the small little villages, cafes and walking paths. Once at the top, you’ll be treated to the first ever-revolving restaurant, Piz Gloria. There’s also a free museum dedicated to the James Bond movie, On Her Majesty’s Secret Service, as parts of the movie were filmed here.
This cute car-free town high above Lauterbrunnen has great views of the valley and the surrounding mountains. Have a wander through the shops and cafes or enjoy one of the many walking trails.
5. Murren Loop
Another picturesque car-free town high above Lauterbrunnen, with gorgeous views of the alps such as Eiger, Monch and Jungfrau. Murren is very peaceful, and is a great place to breathe in the clean mountain air, take a walk, or go for a gondola ride up the valley to another town.
1. Hotel Oberland
In the middle of the valley you’ll find this Swiss restaurant with all the traditional specialties such as cheese and chocolate fondue, potato rosti dishes and weekly seasonal specials. They also have the best hot chocolate in town.
2. Hotel Steinbock Restaurant
For a classy Swiss menu with the odd item on the menu to turn your head such as snails, this is a rather nice restaurant to sit back and relax.
3. Airtime Cafe
A small little café perfect for that morning or afternoon coffee serving lovely baked goods, soups, pies and sandwiches. You can sit in whilst reading a book, make use of the free Wi-Fi or takeaway to enjoy your goods elsewhere.
1. Horner Pub
The Horner pub is a great place to mingle with the locals and tourists in town whilst enjoying the scenery on the deck. Drinks are reasonably priced, there’s free Wi-Fi and they also have a disco late at night on Fridays and Saturdays playing all sorts of music from the Top 40 to hard Rock n Roll.
2. The Bomb Shelter (Camping Jungfrau)
An actual bomb shelter used as a bar that is open to Busabout and Contiki passengers and crew. This is an ideal watering hole to meet other travellers and if you’re staying at Camping Jungfrau, its not too far to walk back to bed.
