This is an adventure that combines the best Halloween sights, frights, and creepy nights with the tucked-away wonders of Transylvania.

Halloween hasn’t been scary for a long time. The vampires and ghouls have been replaced by sexy cat costumes, coloured alcopops, and treats without tricks. So, it’s time for you to celebrate the real scares of Halloween. Take this tour of Eastern Europe and visit the home of Vlad the Impaler, explore Dracula’s castle, tell ghost stories by a campfire, and celebrate the night in the clubs of Budapest. It’s an adventure that combines the best Halloween sights, frights, and creepy nights with the tucked-away wonders of Eastern Europe.

We spend 7 days exploring Hungary, Romania. We visit Budapest, Cluj-Napoca, Sibiel, Salina Turda, Sibiu, Brașov, Răcătău Valley.

7 Day Itinerary

Day 1: Budapest to Cluj

Your adventure begins with our early departure from Budapest on the start of our terrifying trek, as we race against the sun to arrive in Romania before dusk. We will be stopping for lunch as we continue drawing ever closer to the Romanian border, any currency exchange required can be completed upon our arrival, so get your Leu and prepare for our journey into darkness. We arrive this evening in the city of Cluj, known for her rich academic, cultural and religious landmarks. Head out on an orientation walk of the city to stretch your legs and explore the many sights on offer. Don’t forget to eat your garlic!

Day 2: Cluj to Turda to Sibiu to Sibiel

We will be departing early as we make way towards Sibiel via Turda and Sibiu. Whilst in Turda we will be stopping at the world famous Salina Turda mines where you will get to explore the cavernous rooms carved into the minerals, deep within the Earth’s belly. Our next stop sees our arrival in Sibiu for lunch and an optional walking tour to explore the rich cultural heritage of this truly idyllic city. This evening we arrive in the bucolic village of Sibiel. Enjoy your rustic surroundings however you choose or feel free to join us for an immersive evening of traditional Transylvanian folk dancing and authentic local fare.

Day 3: Sibiel to Brasov

Today we’ll make our way to the birthplace of the Romanian National Anthem, Brasov. Upon arrival we will have a short orientation walk to better acquaint you with your new surroundings, followed by an optional walking tour if you would like to delve the depths of a city awash with historic buildings and monuments. Check out some of the local bars and cafes, grab some lunch and a few drinks or just explore the city for yourself. Tonight enjoy dinner in the centre of Transylvania!

Day 4: Brasov

The day has come! We depart for the former home of Vlad Tepes. Vlad the Impaler was the Prince and ruler of Wallachia, renowned for his acts of unspeakable cruelty he was also a well liked ruler among his people. It was said that Vlad was able to place a golden chalice at a fountain in the town centre and no one would dare to steal it. Enjoy your included tour of the castle and learn of the many legends, myths, and tales surrounding the Son of the Dragon. We return to Brasov this afternoon and the time is yours to spend as you choose, perhaps head up Tampa Hill for some breathtaking sights, check out the Gothic architecture of the Black Church, or simply enjoy a day exploring the local wares. Tonight we get together for an optional Romanian meal as we wind down a day steeped in history, and blood.

Day 5: Brasov to Racatau Valley

This morning we make our way to Racatau Valley with a stop in Sighisoara. We arrive into the home of Dracul around lunch and will stretch our legs on an orientation tour of this gorgeous medieval city. Sighisoara is renowned for its architecture and many towers and churches, it is also the town where Vlad Dracula lived in exile and consequently the town where Dracula was born. We have a tour of the citadel and depart after lunch for our party lodge. Nestled in a valley in the Carpathians, the area is incredibly scenic with vast untouched swathes of greenery. Tonight we have our BBQ and BOOgie the night away at our Halloween party. Join us for some delicious BBQ and drinks by the light of a roaring bonfire, then spend the rest of the night partying with your fellow passengers.

Day 6: Racatau Valley to Budapest

We begin our journey back to the Hungarian border and our eventual destination of Budapest. We will be taking the scenic route through some truly spectacular scenery as we make our way through the Romanian countryside. We arrive in Budapest this evening, stretch your legs or take a load off for a while in anticipation of our final night together.

Day 7: Budapest

Check-out is after breakfast this morning. We hope to see you again!
