Accommodation in Greece
Accommodation in Athens and on the Greek Islands can be guaranteed by pre-booking through MyTrip. We have selected a hostel, budget hotel or campsite on each island, which can be pre-booked via our website - you'll be required to pay a 10% deposit online, and the balance is paid when you get there. While accommodation on the islands can be arranged locally by the Busabout guide, availability is limited, particularly in July and August, and you may not have a wide choice as to the type of room that you stay in so make sure you book your accommodation 2 weeks before you jump onto your first ferry.
Prices will vary throughout the season and are dependent on both the time of the year and the type of room. Private rooms will be more expensive than shared dorm-style accommodation. Prices below are provided as guidelines - specific prices depend on the exact dates and room type and can be accessed through MyBusabout once you have purchased your ticket.
Important information Greece
With your Greek Adventure just around the corner, there’s a few things you need to know before you head out to paradise. First up, Greece is going to be super busy this season, so it’s essential you get your accommodation booked before you arrive. We suggest you’ve got all your beds booked at least two weeks before you jump on your first ferry, give yourselves even more time if you’re looking for private rooms.
Secondly, we’ve just been advised of a wee change to the ferries that we use in Greece. The Greeks can have a pretty relaxed outlook on timetables, ‘island time’ I think they call it. This ‘island time’ can mean that last minute changes can occur to the timetable, and this year the fast service which we use (takes about 4 hours) will not get you back into Athens untill around 2am. So, please make sure you book your onward travel accordingly, any questions let us know.
Transfer info Greece
If you are arriving at the airport then the easiest form of transport into town is the Metro. However please note that if there is no metro running there are other options below.
Not to fear! There is an excellent airport bus that leaves right outside the exit of the airport, the X95. It will cost 3.20e and will take you to Syntagma Sq. It runs 24 hours a day. From Syntagma Square you can take the metro to wherever their destination is, or they can take a taxi. If you do get a taxi ask the driver to put the fare on the metre – it should cost appx €5 - €10 for fares within the city and €30 - €35 from the airport to the city.
If your trip starts on Saturday or Sunday and you are arriving by ferry can you please follow the instructions below.
OPTION 1 (if you are staying at Easy Access Hostel)
Walk or metro to Omonia Sq. From Omonia Sq take the exit "Athinas" and then head down Athinas Street. Cross the road so that you are taking the bus with the square behind you. You will see a sign for the X7 bus, it's huge, can't miss it. From here the buses start at 5.17am and run every 15 minutes. You jump on this bus (line is called "Thermal Blue" and it takes you straight to Kallithea station where you re-board the metro and it takes you straight to Piraeus where you then take the usual overpass and voila! You're at gate E6.
OPTION 2 (if you are staying at Easy Access Hostel)
Walk or metro to Omonia Sq. From Omonia Sq take the exit "Athinas" and then head down Ahtinas Street. Cross the road so that you are taking the bus with the square behind you. You will see a sign for the bus number 49 - take this all the way to Piraeus. The closest stop I could see was a street called Akti Miaouli. Its going to be a walk from here, not sure how long, probably 15 mins. Grab a map and the street is near "J" for the ports.
OPTION 3 (if you are staying at Aphrodite Hostel)
Walk to Larissa Station. Take metro to Syntagma Sq. From here walk to Filelinon St (one block in front of you, if you have Parliament behind you). Take bus no 40 to Piraeus. Closest street we could see on the itinerary for that bus was Agios Nikolaou/or same as above for 49. Again, walk to E6 from here.
