Greek Souvenirs
GLASS EYES:
The evil eye is an important concept in Greek culture and is focused around the belief
that the envy that lucky or beautiful people inspire curses them. In Greece a protective
blue glass eye is often used to ward off this curse and this symbol has been incorporated
into jewellery, key rings, pictures and the like. If you want a traditionalGreek souvenir
(and to ward off all the envy your gorgeous Greek tan will provoke) then this is the thing
for you!
OUZO:
This liquoricey flavoured spirit is a traditional Greek drink and often comesin the form of a
shot. Like it or love it, you have to try it at least once while you’re on the islands and taking
a bottle home (even if just as an anti-cold precaution, thisstuff is killer) is always a nice idea!
BAR T-SHIRTS:
Be it Scandinavian bar, the Dubliner, Flames or Rehab, Greek island bar t-shirts are the coolest
souvenir to have! Sure to inspire the envy of your mates (glass eyes at the ready) they are versatile,
fashionable and above all will remind youof the nights you may not otherwise be able to remember,
wicked!
KOMBOLOI
(Greek worry beads): Beautiful strings of between 16 – 20 beads in a range of colours, patterns
and prices. With their origins in the knotted prayer strings used by Greek Orthodox priests, worry
beads are a classic souvenir and are available in the majority of souvenir shops on the Greek islands.
OWL KEY RINGS:
In Greek mythology owls are linked to the bird goddess Athena, goddess of wisdom and the arts. Lovely brass owl key rings are another traditional souvenir of Greece so your promise to bring home a Greek God can be honestly fulfilled!
