There are a few things in Europe which are firmly on the trail of the independent traveller - Festival de San Fermin in Pamplona (or Running of the Bulls), La Tomatina in Bunol near Valencia, Hogmanay in Edinburgh, St Patrick's Day in Dublin - but of all of these, Oktoberfest in Munich (or Beerfest or Oktoberfest) has got to be top of the 'do before you die' list. It is not just a European must-do, it ranks up there as one of the Worlds biggest parties.
