Day 1: Prague to Kutna Hora to Olomouc
After breakfast we drive across the Czech Republic reaching UNESCO listed Kutna Hora, where you'll discover the famous church made from human bones. After lunch we travel to the Moravian capital Olomouc. It's a pre-touristy hidden gem, a university town of pubs, churches, castles and amazingly cheap prices. Tonight is a great chance to really get to know your Guide and fellow travellers over dinner at a traditional Moravian restaurant.
Day 2: Olomouc to Auschwitz to Krakow
Today we visit Auschwitz, the Nazi death camp which is an emotional experience. We have set up a guided tour of both Auschwitz and Birkenau camps. We like to take our time here as it is important to learn about such places to better understand our past. We then head on to Krakow, a definite highlight. Tonight we'll eat, drink and be merry, before heading underground to the best club scene in the East. Our Guide will escort you on a memorable night out in Krakow
Day 3: Krakow
Visit the city of Schindler's List and the beauty of Krakow with its castle district, Jewish quarter, its bustling markets, the historic old town. There is the option to join a bike tour in the morning or the Salt mines in the afternoon. Krakow has an amazing feel on a Sunday, especially chilling in the Kazimierz district at one of many quirky cafes listening to live music.
Day 4: Krakow to Zakopane
After breakfast we then drive to the stunning Tatra Mountains for some alpine revelry in Zakopane. It's only a two hour drive into the eastern Alps. Hike to the top of Eastern Europe, or just kick back in the village experiencing all the sights. You will certainly get a kick out of the homes that were built with one tree! In the evening we like to immerse you in the culture of Zakopane at one of the many traditional taverns, feasting on the locally procured produce.
Day 5: Zakopane to Budapest
After a hearty breakfast, it's on to Budapest. We have a couple of stops in Slovakia including an optional tank ride before a stop in the mountains of Donovally, Slovakia, for lunch. Budapest, the party capital of the east lies waiting, so what better way to familiarise you with this great city, than a night out eating and clubbing - Budapest style. Tonight we have organised a typical Hungarian meal and a Danube River night cruise followed by an introduction into some of the quirky pubs around the 7th District.
Day 6: Budapest
Enjoy a free day in buzzing Budapest. Go caving under the metropolis or stroll the regal castle district. Maybe an evening thermal bath or a spot of good retail therapy along the many, Paris styled boulevards of this fascinating city. Our Guide will set you up with all the best info to make the most of your free day. Many like to kick back here in the local food markets or hire a bike armed with a picnic and head out to Margret island. It's a top city, one of the true highlights of your trip.
Day 7: Budapest to Plitvice
We head south out of Budapest onto the UNESCO listed Plitvice National Park, via Lake Balaton, where we stop for a swim. We visit the Balkan open air war museum, which is stunningly real in its appraisal of the Balkan War of the early 90's. We arrive into the National Park at sunset ready for a barbeque dinner in the middle of this aqua wonderland. Accommodation is in bungalows in the park so you will wake up to amazing scenery and clean, crisp, fresh air. Today our journey enters a new region of Europe, the Balkans, where the look and feel is really different. The food, the language, the culture and the people all change.
Day 8: Plitvice to Split
We are the first in the park in the morning which means you get to wander through this amazing aqua wonderland before the crowds descend. The cascading waterfalls and aqua green lakes will leave you ready for the Croatian coast. We spend the whole morning here and then set off on a memorable drive to the Croatian coast and a night out in the cosmopolitan town of Split. We have such good friends here so you'll be in good hands on your final night.
Day 9: Split
You are free to travel on. Check out our Croatia Sailing trips, Bohemian Trek or the Ottoman Trek. All depart Split on Saturday.
