New Year's Eve in Amsterdam is called Oudjaarsdag or Oudjaarsavond "Old Year's Day" and "Old Year's Evening." But don't worry, your guide will give you a crash course in Dutch so that you can pronounce gelukkig nieuwjaar ("prosperous new year") to the locals in Dam Square. This square is the focus for the festivities, set up with beer tents and live shows, and is electric with travellers and locals alike all up for a party to remember. As the clock strikes twelve, the city literally erupts with light and sound, as fireworks are set off all over the city and people are shouting New Year’s wishes.

As with all our trips flexibility and freedom is what we are all about. There will be a guide on hand to make sure your time in Amsterdam is the best possible. They will organise dinners, pub crawls, parties and visits to Amsterdam’s must-see places, but if you want to head out with your posse and discover Amsterdam for yourself then feel free. Our guides are Amsterdam experts and will help you decide how to make your New Year as fun-packed as possible. Just make sure you have the address of the hostel before partaking in Amsterdam’s delights.

Day 1: 30th Dec
Depart London Victoria 7:30am
Welcome to your New Year’s party Amsterdam style. It all kicks off at our London Victoria office where your Guide, Driver and big blue Busabout bus will be waiting. Kick back and relax on the way to Amsterdam over the English Channel and get to know the people who will be next to you when the clock strikes midnight on the 31st. You will arrive into Amsterdam in the early evening and then meet in the hostel bar for a welcome drink and an awesome dinner on us! After dinner there will be a shuttle arranged to take you into the city where our guide will be taking you on an orientation walk (including the infamous red light district) and pointing out all the best spots to sample the delights of the 'Dam.
Day 2: 31st Dec
After breakfast it's time to see the city as the locals do. After hiring a bicycle, we'll be touring the Jordaan neighbourhood along its narrow canal-side streets, checking out the Albert Cuypmarkt and discovering the village ambience of the ancient Prinseneiland and Bickerseiland quarters, best-kept secrets from the tourist masses. If you want to visit the surrounding area of Amsterdam then visit the nearby Zaanse Schans windmills, Aalsmeer flower auction or Alkmaar cheese market.
The afternoon is free for you to check out some of Amsterdam's non-intoxicating attractions before we set sail on an awesome canal cruise. Then, it's time to party!
You can meet the guide and the rest of the group in the hostel and then head into the main part of Amsterdam where the festivities take place. Your guide will no doubt take you to a few drinking dens en-route to the main venue for the night’s revelry - Dam Square, with its Fireworks, flirting and firm handshakes when midnight comes.
Day 3: 1st Jan
No your head is not being squeezed in a vice - it's the morning after the night before. What better than your first breakfast of the year Dutch-style at our hostel. Take it easy today and give yourself a break, nothing too strenuous is on the cards we promise! Your guide will be leading you on a tour of Anne Frank’s house, the Rykes and Van Gogh's museum and for those who can stomach it there will be the option to visit the Heineken Brewery.
Dinner tonight will be at the hostel, and if you're up to it we'll be heading back into town for one last look at the city of sin.
Day 4: 2nd Jan
We will say a tearful goodbye to Amsterdam and the Netherlands and head back on our coach to London via the ferry. Our coach is equipped with DVDs and screens and a multi-channel audio system so there is plenty to keep you entertained on the way home. Remember to stock up on cheap European delights whilst on the ferry.
