The 3 hour tour (in English) was described by our passengers last year as an 'absolute must'. It's Spain's most visited attraction for very good reason.
Granada has an awesome cultural legacy and the Alhambra is the jewel that crowns this beautiful city at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. We'll visit the Nazarian city, the Alhambra, where every square inch is a work of art, palaces and grand halls. The name is Arabic for 'Red Fortress' and was built by the Moorish rulers of Granada as their residence and court in the mid-14th Century ‘to reflect the beauty of Paradise itself’. The last Arabic king cried, retreating, as the Catholic Kings conquered it, and during the tour you’ll understand why, as stunning Islamic architecture and decoration fill the palace and mosque along with the incredible Generalife gardens, the fountains and streams; a UNESCO World Heritage site scoring super high on the 'Wow' scale.
Due to high demand tickets for the Alhambra sell out up to a week in advance, but do not fear! Save yourself the hassle by logging in to your MyTrip account and purchasing your guaranteed tickets with Busabout.
Day 1: Madrid to Lisbon
Welcome to your Iberian Adventure! Today we head to Lisbon, the most charming and oldest of the European capitals. Your Guide will take you on an orientation walk and tell you all about the history, sights and must do’s as well as giving you an insight into what will be happening over the next six days.
Once in Lisbon, we will give you time to check-in to our hostel and get ready for tonight. Time for some dinner and drinks before heading to the Bairro Alto, you should get excited because this is where the locals go for the best nightlife in the city.
Day 2: Lisbon
You have a full day to explore the Alfama District (don’t forget to check out the viewpoints overlooking the river), Rossio Square, the Torre de Belem, the Praça do Comércio or the Mosteiro dos Jeronimos. The choice is endless!
Day 3: Lisbon to Lagos
This morning we head off to sun lovers’ heaven of Portugal, and the coastal, party town of Lagos! This town is a heavyweight among the fun-loving enthusiasts. It’s the hub of nightlife in the Algarve region and its beaches rate among the best on the Iberian Peninsula. Feeling more active? Why not hit the water and spend the afternoon kayaking? This excursion will let you explore Lagos’ inspiring caves and grotto’s, including a stop on a secluded beach for some swimming and sun.
Many proclaim Lagos to be the party capital of the Algarve - tonight you make up your own mind as we’ll take you to the various bars that make up this hedonistic part of Europe!
Day 4: Lagos to Seville
Today after a wee sleep in, it's onto Seville, the magnificent capital of Andalucia! After check-in you have the opportunity to go on our famous walking tour of Seville. Your local guide will take you through the cobblestoned streets of the Cathedral district to the Santa Cruz area, providing entertaining information about the city, its history and people.
Early evening meet your Guide on the roof top terrace for some drinks before we take you out for an optional tapas dinner and a few of the local bars. Party until the sun rises on the banks of the Guadalquivir River, where revellers take advantage of the outdoor bars lining the river banks.
Day 5: Seville to Granada
After some breakfast in Seville, we head onto Granada arriving early afternoon. We have an orientation walk through the city and in the evening; we’ll take you to some of the best local tapas bars in town, Granada is a student town, so those with the stamina will find plenty of opportunities for partying late!
Day 6: Granada
You have the entire day to explore Granada at your leisure. Be sure not to miss the most famous Moorish relic and most visited sight in Spain – The Alhambra. Built towards the end of Moorish rule, the Alhambra means 'Moorish Palace'. Marvel at the intricate sculptures and relics carved into the walls (under Islam, the artists were not allowed to depict the human form), while not forgetting to look up every so often at the detailed ceiling work. Our optional tour includes entrance fees and a local guide; you also get to skip right past the massive queues that form here every day. This will certainly be one of the highlights of your trip!
If you're ready to take it easy after the Alhambra, there's always the chance of plunging into some Moroccan-style baths (Hammam). Jump in the cold, warm or hot pools, try the flavoured tea, or if you're in real need of some relaxation, have an aromatherapy massage.
After your full day in Granada, join your Guide and Driver that evening and head to the Sacromonte Caves to see a live Flamenco show). This is one show not to be missed. You will have the opportunity to see Flamenco performed by professional dancers with its passion and intensity. After the Flamenco show there is plenty of opportunities to hit the town.
Day 7: Granada to Madrid
It's time to say farewell to Granada and head back to Madrid, although not without an amazing scenic stop along the route of Don Quixote – The Man from La Mancha! We will make a stop at Consuegra, where Don Quixote famously tilted at the windmills (he thought they were giants!) for a great photo opportunity, illustrating the twelve windmills and ruined castle overlooking the plains of La Mancha.
After Consuegra we head to the Imperial City of Toledo, a World Heritage city. You have a couple of hours to lose yourself in the cobblestone streets and poke your head in the numerous stores filled with hand crafted steel swords and marzipan, and to check out Toledo's famous Cathedral featuring significant art works by El Greco. From Toledo it's just a short drive back to Madrid, where we should arrive back by around 6pm. That night you can join the group for a final night get together so that you can reminisce about the great week that you have just experienced on the Iberian peninsula.
