Alhambra
The 3 hour tour (in English) was described by our passengers last year as an 'absolute must'. It's Spain's most visited attraction for very good reason.
Granada has an awesome cultural legacy and the Alhambra is the jewel that crowns this beautiful city at the foot of the Sierra Nevada mountain range. We'll visit the Nazarian city, the Alhambra, where every square inch is a work of art, palaces and grand halls. The name is Arabic for 'Red Fortress' and was built by the Moorish rulers of Granada as their residence and court in the mid-14th Century ‘to reflect the beauty of Paradise itself’. The last Arabic king cried, retreating, as the Catholic Kings conquered it, and during the tour you’ll understand why, as stunning Islamic architecture and decoration fill the palace and mosque along with the incredible Generalife gardens, the fountains and streams; a UNESCO World Heritage site scoring super high on the 'Wow' scale.
Due to high demand tickets for the Alhambra sell out up to a week in advance, but do not fear! Save yourself the hassle by logging in to your MyTrip account and purchasing your guaranteed tickets with Busabout.
Day 1: Madrid to Seville
Departing Madrid bright and early our first stop is the beautiful town of Cordoba, with its beautiful architecture, candy cane striped stonework and incredible central Mosque. Then it’s on to stunning Seville - centre of Andalucian culture and famed for its ‘sevillanas’ Flamenco bars, iconic plazas and sexy southern style. On arrival we’ll explore the city with an orientation walk to the imposing Alcazar Palace before free time, when you can wander the sun dappled streets or join our optional walking tour to explore the city the way only the locals know how. Then it’s time to head out in to the evening to discover the traditional food, drink and nightlife of this amazing city with our trip mates.
Day 2: Seville to Lagos
Spend the morning checking out the city and the local cuisine, then from sumptuous Seville we head to laid-back, fun loving Lagos as we cruise in to Portugal and the awesome Algarvian party capital. Wicked beaches and some seriously great bars and clubs make Lagos famous across Europe, and after check in it’s on to the lively old town for some local cuisine before an evening checking out the bars and hedonistic clubs that make this a true partyers’ paradise.
Day 3: Lagos
Lagos is yours for the taking today – choose from sea-kayaking your way through the Algarve Grottos, rock-climbing or surfing the deep blue waves. Alternatively spend the day chilling out on the golden sands of Praia de Batata or meandering through the streets of the old town. Tonight is a free night, so head back to the bars, indulge in some local cuisine or just chill out with your trip mates – whatever you fancy, Lagos is where it’s at…
Day 4: Lagos to Tarifa
From the Costa del Sol to the Costa de La Luz - the coast of light - and one of its brightest stars, Tarifa, where a host of optional activities and a gorgeous old town await. Explore the white washed, cobbled streets before getting ready for the optional night trip to Morocco and the exotic splendour of Tangier, the north westernmost tip of awesome Africa… For those who want to stay in Tarifa there’s loads to do – go whale watching in the straights or spend the afternoon and evening chilling, shopping or checking out the local bars – the choice is yours!
Day 5: Tarifa to Granada
From bartering to bullfighting today, as we pass through the home of the bullfight and, for many summers, Ernest Hemmingway - Ronda. Then it’s on to gorgeous Granada, cruising in in the late afternoon ready for an orientation walk through the stunning streets and an evening sampling some of the best local tapas, before a night exploring this incredible student city and its wicked nightlife.
Day 6: Granada
There’s time to explore Granada at your leisure today, and there’s no better place to start than an optional tour of the Alhambra (including entrance fees and a local guide). Spain’s most visited site, we’ll skip the queues to maximise our day and ensure we get the most out of our time at this incredible Moorish relic that has to be seen to be believed. After site seeing in the sunshine cool off this afternoon with a dip in the Moroccan style baths and a cup of traditional mint tea, have a massage or explore the city, then head out this evening with your guide and driver for some awesome Tapas and an optional visit to the Sacramonte Caves and a mind blowing Flamenco show.
Day 7: Granada to Madrid
From Granada we trace the route of giant fighting Don Quixote today and make a stop at Consuegra, home of the famous windmills overlooking the plains of La Mancha. Next stop, the Imperial city of Toledo, where we’ll lose ourselves in the cobblestone streets and check out the local crafts (steel swords and marzipan!); the awesome cathedral and the art within before the short drive back to Madrid, where our tour will finish.
